PRODUCT SHOWCASE: Team profiles on the Kognia platform

Within the Kognia platform, the Team Profile page provides data-driven analysis across performance at team level. This short article will further explain what is in the tool in this specific section, and provide insight as to why these decisions were made.

  • Group together a subset of matches against a particular opponent style

  • Customise your visualised tactics to align with your game model

  • All moments linked to video

The first tab allows analysts to view their team’s performance against key metrics within the context of game situations.

The team profile section on the Kognia platform showcases performance data across multiple game components.

The displayed data provides a first glance at Tottenham Hotspur’s performances in the Premier League this season (we can also access previous seasons, and other competitions in which Tottenham play).

Crucially, we can assess multiple metrics across attack, defence, physicality, passing and set pieces - in the same way we can across the player profile.

Aligning to your game model and KPIs

Whether it’s assessing own team performance or that of your upcoming opponents, users have the full ability to tailor which tactical metrics are displayed in this section of the platform.

For example, a team with a more direct passing approach may be interested to assess the data showcasing direct plays, overcoming opponents with vertical passes, and successful passes into the opposition box. Additionally, teams that focus on generating width may be more interested to see data covering switches of play, crosses and take-on attempts.

Switch between metrics to customise to your team's game model

As shown in the image below (taken from the Kognia platform), Kognia metrics focused on passing are shown, and can be selected to visualise in the context of the overall team’s performance.

Own team and opposition analysis: game-by-game

Recently added, when users are looking to break down particular matches, they can see both their statistics alongside their opponent's, crucial for determining if you “dominated” the game, and as per the profile section, these displayed metrics can also be adjusted to align with your team’s game model.

In addition - and crucially - we know that not all matches are the same. Users can select a specific set of games to view in isolation. These could be occasions where your team has won by a considerable margin, or away performances against similar teams in the competition. This can also be applied to a previous season - allowing users to isolate their two matches against a particular opponent, which can be especially useful in those early stages of a new season.

Identifying the key performers within the squad

The final tab within the squad profile page on the Kognia platform is where we can view player outputs (both total and p90).

An extremely valuable function, this aspect of the Kognia platform allows users to better analyse the individuals within the team, enabling them to understand who is perhaps the creative nucleus, or can give up defensive weaknesses. A common theme throughout the Kognia platform - these displayed metrics can also be personalised to ensure the data relevant to your team’s game model is displayed.

The Kognia platform's Team Profiles section offers a comprehensive and data-driven approach to analysing team performance. By allowing users to group matches, customise tactical visualisations and link all moments to video, it provides deep insights into a team's strengths and weaknesses. The ability to assess multiple components across various aspects of play, align metrics with a specific game model and conduct game-by-game analysis against opponents makes it an invaluable tool for understanding team dynamics and identifying key performers within the squad.
