PRODUCT UPDATE: Positional profiles available in the Kognia platform

It is no secret that labelling a player using only their position is no longer sufficient. They can be considered essentially an annotation that is merely useful for squad sheets and formations, but are inadequate for describing the tactical reality of the role. Roles are dynamic, and a central midfielder playing in a two at Manchester United is unlikely to have the same requirements as one of the midfield three at Newcastle United. To try to put a one-size-fits-all label on the role or position simply doesn’t do it justice.

That’s why we’ve developed customised positional templates that go beyond just one component of play, integrating Kognia metrics that are most relevant to those specific roles (attacking and defensive) within that position.

Users are able to assess each player in the context of a specific position, whilst also being able to hone in on a particular facet of that role, with Kognia metrics specifically chosen to align with the particular selection.

Our platform allows analysts to define and track roles with precision, focusing on the different components of a position and role, whether that’s through passing and ball progression, or through more defensive-minded data, such as how the player defends their penalty box, or measuring their success in duels.

In addition, users can also configure and tailor the displayed metrics, further aligning with the data and behaviours that are most important to their game model or that relate to each of their own players’ Individual Development Plans.

The profile templates are built to reflect the nuances of a team’s tactical identity, tailoring the metrics and visualisations to match the role-specific KPIs that matter most.
